Here are some basic recommendations for the different machines used with Qube.

  • Supervisor
    • All main platforms (Windows, OSX, Linux) will can run as a Supervisor regardless of the platforms used by the Workers.
    • If there is a choice of platforms, Linux would be preferred as it seems to be a more stable server platform, then OSX as it has a Linux kernel, and then Windows.
    • Farm Size
      • 1-10 node renderfarm – Dedicated or multi-use server is fine, 4+GB RAM
      • 11-50 node renderfarm – Dedicated Supervisor recommended, 4+ GB RAM
      • 50-100 node renderfarm – Dedicated Supervisor recommended with higher memory (ie. 32GB)
      • 100+ node renderfarm – Dedicated Supervisor recommended with max memory running Linux
  • Worker
    • Processor and memory recommended dependent on applications used for rendering (ie. Maya, XSI, AfterEffects, etc). In general, more memory is better.
  • Client
    • No real requirements from Qube as these machines are only used to submit a job. If the machine is also used for rendering or as an artist workstation, then the applications used may have some additional requirements.
  • No labels
